Citation | Jeremy Bloxham's research is concerned with the origin of magnetic fields in the planets of the solar system. Though he is primarily a theoretician, he has been also deeply involved in data analysis. His first major contribution was to use historical measurements of the direction of the Earth's magnetic field to construct maps of the evolution of the field at the core-mantle boundary. These have provided the major observational constraints on all later models of the geomagnetic dynamo. His three dimensional numerical models of nonlinear magneto convection have lead to a greater understanding of core dynamics. |
