TitleKinloch, Anthony James: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationProfessor Kinloch is the world leader in the science and technology of adhesion. He has achieved this status by having the unusual capacity to cover all aspects of the subject from surface chemistry to the fracture mechanics of joint failure. This is reflected in his work establishing surface treatment for bonding thermoplastic composites, elucidating the mechanisms of aqueous attack in joints, rubber toughening of thermosetting adhesives and the use of fracture mechanics in characterising the toughness of adhesives and analysing the mechanics of peeling. This extraordinary range of disciplines and the high level of achievement in all of them constitutes his case for election.
