TitleSherrington, David Colin: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationThe candidate has made a unique contribution to organic and polymer chemistry, and indeed has helped to unite these sub- disciplines. His development of polymer-supported reagents, catalysts and sorbents has considerably facilitated the practicability of synthesis in the laboratory, and aided the introduction of high throughput robotic techniques in industry. In parallel with this he has brought modern organic chemistry to bear in developing novel polymers via e.g. the introduction of reactive surfactants, in using chiral metal complex templates in synthesising mainchain chiral polymers, and in the simple but clever use of bifunctional comonomers in synthesising bespoke branched polymers.
