TitleVan Heyningen, Veronica: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationProfessor van Heyningen's work has embraced the phenotype and genotype in both man and mouse. She has dissected relevant genotypes at the level of chromosomes, DNA sequences and the immunological detection of proteins. Her persistence has greatly clarified the mechanism of a malformation of the eye and a tumour of the kidney (aniridia and Wilms' tumour). These may occur singly or jointly, and may or may not be associated with impaired intellect. She has advanced mapping of this part of the chromosome involved, and chaired international chromosome mapping meetings with distinction.
