Citation | Gerry Rubin is distinguished for his wide-ranging, landmark contributions to the study of Drosophila genetics and development. His early work culminated in 1982 when, with Spradling, he established a method for generating transgenic Drosophila - thereby allowing the analysis of gene function in vivo. Since 1985, he has made major advances in studying signal transduction pathways, including pioneering the use of high- throughput genetic screening for gene discovery. These discoveries have had widespread impact. He was the major force establishing and directing the Drosophila Genome Project, serving as a model for subsequent large-scale genome projects. He has consistently shown great leadership in research and to the research community. |
