CitationDavid Sainsbury is a generous friend of science in the UK. He has built and supported laboratories for the study of plant sciences in Norwich and cognitive neuroscience in London. His Gatsby Foundation encourages and supports schools, undergraduate and graduate Students as well as promoting environmental sustainability in developing countries. He served as Minister for Science from July 1998 until November 2006 under the New Labour Government, where he won a multitude of friends and admirers in the scientific community for his sympathetic, strong and rational support of their causes.
