TitleIsaacson, Peter Gershon: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date14 May 2009
DescriptionProfessor Isaacson has pioneered the application of immunohistochemistry and molecular genetics to histopathology. Consequently, he has led the way in synthesising observations of disordered morphology with disordered function. He is internationally recognised for his innovative work on malignant lymphomas, particularly the identification of a number of new lymphoid malignancies including mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. He has shown that gastric MALT lympnoma is linked with 'Heliobacter pylori' infection and can be cured by eradicating the organism with antibiotics. In analysing the molecular genetic pathways of this response, he has identified an important new lymphoma associated gene, 'bc110'.
