DescriptionProfessor Owen, an international authority on computational solid mechanics, has contributed prominently to the development of solution procedures for plastic deformation problems involving large strains and to discrete methods for the simulation of multi-fracturing materials and particulate systems. Professor Owen's scientific achievements have been recognised by the award of the Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering, an Honorary D.Sc. by the University of Porto, the Gauss-Newton Medal of the International Association for Computational Mechanics, the Warner T. Koiter Medal of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Premium Medal of the Spanish Society for Computational Mechanics.
