Proposers | Robert Kennicutt is among the most influential and most highly regarded astronomers in the world. More than anyone, he has furthered our knowledge of star formation and the chemical evolution of galaxies, establishing the Kennicutt-Schmidt law relating gas density to star-formation rate. With Mould and Freedman he co-led the most successful of all programmes on the Hubble Space Telescope, leading to Concordance Cosmology and the award of the Gruber Cosmology Prize. His highly cited bibliography reflects sustained outstanding achievement in scientific research and the consequent key role he plays in modern-day astrophysics. |
