Citation | Sean Munro has made highly influential contributions to our understanding of the secretory pathway and how intracellular membranes are organised. He helped discover the KDEL address label which causes retention of resident proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum and how Golgi proteins are retained in the Golgi by their shorter transmembrane domains. He has characterised many Golgi enzymes responsible for N-linked glycosylation and has elucidated several mechanisms by which peripheral membrane proteins become recruited to the Golgi. By identifying proteins involved in vesicle fusion and understanding how they are localised, Munro is constructing a picture of how organelle identity is created and maintained. |
