TitleDawkins, Marian: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date30 April 2014
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationProfessor of Animal Behaviour, Department of Zoology, University of Oxford and Emeritus Fellow in Biological Sciences, Somerville College, Oxford

Marian Dawkins is one of the most influential scientists in the field of animal welfare. The important topic of animal welfare has been avoided by most scientists because of a perception that the topic is founded on hard to define and impossible to measure 'feelings' of non-human animals. Marian Dawkins has done more than anyone to change this perception, using rigorous science to dispel myths, challenge dogma and sweep away conjecture - for the benefit of humans and farm animals. Her original scientific discoveries relating to welfare of farmed birds have influenced policy and practice across Europe and beyond.
