TitleGill, Patrick: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date28 April 2016
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationPatrick Gill is internationally distinguished for his outstanding contributions to the development of optical atomic clocks of the highest accuracy, to the atomic physics that underpins these, and to redefining time and length standards worldwide, upon which the success of many industries critically depend. He has also imaginatively applied his achievements to create challenging, novel equipment and techniques, which can be cost-effectively realised and provided to other institutions, or licensed to companies for exploitation. These applications have beneficially impacted many fields of engineering and industrial production and have enabled novel micro atomic clocks with much lower uncertainties than so-called chip-scale atomic clocks.
