CitationDavid Hight is a world expert on fundamental soil behaviour. His pioneering research has been on the science and technology of obtaining soil samples from deep boreholes with minimal disturbance and on the development of very high quality laboratory testing techniques. He is distinguished for his outstanding research on soil properties, their measurement in-situ and in the laboratory, and their application to solving complex foundation and earthwork problems. He is in considerable demand internationally as a consultant on major civil engineering projects. His research and its application to many geotechnical problems has had a major influence on the understanding of the mechanical behaviour of natural and compacted soils and on engineering practice
