TitleKumacheva, Eugenia: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date28 April 2016
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationProfessor Eugenia Kumacheva is an internationally recognised pioneer in the development of new fundamental and experimental approaches in surface, polymer and materials science. Her imaginative research has exceptional breadth, reaching across traditional boundaries of chemistry, surface science, materials science, soft matter physics, and engineering. She has provided new understanding of lubrication and friction at the molecular level, freezing of liquids in confinement, connections between nanoparticle assembly and chemical polymerization, and has demonstrated the use of microfluidic systems to grow crystals and polymers to specific microscopic sizes and to allow stem cells to be grown in instructive artificial microenvironments that allows facile visualization, a development with applications in clinical diagnostics, pharmaceutical research, and regenerative medicine.
