TitleMaguire, Eleanor Anne: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date28 April 2016
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationMaguire has transformed our view of the functional neuroanatomy of navigation, memory and imagining the future with studies many of which are widely acknowledged as classics in the field. Of particular note is her work on taxi drivers, showing hippocampal plasticity in the adult human brain, and the demonstration that specific memories in the hippocampus can be decoded using pattern-analysis methods. Maguire is unique in cognitive neuroscience in working at the highest level both on spatial navigation and memory, and in showing how a mechanism for wayfinding in space could allow people to recollect their past and imagine their future.
