TitleShepherd, Theodore Gordon: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date28 April 2016
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationShepherd has made significant contributions to fundamental geophysical fluid dynamics and its application to atmospheric science, including the first application of Hamiltonian fluid dynamics to large-scale atmospheric circulations and the derivation of wave-activity conservation laws. He has made important advances in understanding the two-way interactions between the stratosphere and troposphere, including an major step-forward in understanding the mechanisms by which the stratospheric Brewer-Dobson circulation is predicted to increase in strength as a result of climate change, and the way this impacts on predictions of ozone change. He plays a major leadership role in international science focused on the stratosphere and its links to climate
