Citation | Shepherd has made significant contributions to fundamental geophysical fluid dynamics and its application to atmospheric science, including the first application of Hamiltonian fluid dynamics to large-scale atmospheric circulations and the derivation of wave-activity conservation laws. He has made important advances in understanding the two-way interactions between the stratosphere and troposphere, including an major step-forward in understanding the mechanisms by which the stratospheric Brewer-Dobson circulation is predicted to increase in strength as a result of climate change, and the way this impacts on predictions of ozone change. He plays a major leadership role in international science focused on the stratosphere and its links to climate |
