Title | Orengo, Christine Anne: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 28 March 2019 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Christine Orengo as a Fellow of the Royal Society, including personal details of the elected Fellow and citing the reasons for election and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Christine Orengo is an outstanding computational biologist, whose contributions to protein structure classification, as seen in the CATH resource, have changed our understanding of protein sequence, structure and evolution. At the core of her research has been development of novel robust algorithms to determine structural and functional relationships between proteins. She uncovered the prevalence of certain protein folds and the mechanisms of evolution of new functions. Thereby she developed new technologies to predict function from sequence and improve annotation and interpretation of genome sequence data, providing resources which are used worldwide. |
