Citation | As an early adopter of genomic technologies to study the underlying mechanisms of cancer, Dr Peter Campbell has not only furthered our understanding of genetic changes in cancer but has led the development of an entirely new approach to investigating cancer. His work systematically unpicking the relationship between somatic mutations and cancer and his commitment to improving cancer outcomes, has changed our understanding of the development and progression of tumours and now leading to better patient management. Dr Campbell's leadership has been instrumental in expanding the Sanger Institute's Cancer, Ageing and Somatic Mutation program's goals to better understand the processes of ageing and development. As a member of the International Cancer Genome Consortium steering group he has been instrumental in coordinating global efforts to understand the genomic changes present in cancers. As an early adopter of genomic technologies to study the underlying mechanisms of cancer, Dr Peter Campbell has not only furthered our understanding of genetic changes in cancer but has led the development of an entirely new approach to investigating cancer.
