Citation | Jane Francis is a palaeoclimatologist who has made significant contributions to our knowledge of the climate history of polar regions. She has also made important contributions to the management of science, both in the UK, e.g. as a member of the NERC Executive Board and in the Antarctic She is the first woman to have chaired the consultative meetings of the Operations Working Group of Antarctic Treaty, concerned with legal and operational issues in Antarctica. Other scientific honours include the President's Award of the Paleontological Society and the Antarctic Service Medal from the US National Science Foundation. |
