CitationStanley Deser is a world-renowned theoretical physicist whose accomplishments include the Arnowiitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) formulation of general relativity, the discovery with Zumino of Supergravity, the dynamics of flat space with Jackiw and ‘tHooft and many other contributions to the quantum theory of gravity. In the 1980s he was instrumental in securing NSF approval of the LIGO gravitational wave experiment against much opposition.
