TitleVoisin, Claire: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date21 April 2021
DescriptionCertificate endorsing election of Claire Voisin as a Foreign Member of the Royal Society, including personal details of the elected Foreign Member and citation giving the reasons for election and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton.
CitationClaire Voisin is a leading figure in world mathematics, and has made outstanding contributions to many of the key problems of modern algebraic geometry. Her research is unusually versatile: alongside creating innovative viewpoints on deep theoretical questions, she is also formidable as an ingenious problem solver. She has solved problems in the geometry and moduli of algebraic curves, and given a negative solution to Kodaira's problem on deforming compact Kaehler manifolds to algebraic varieties. She has pioneered new ideas on Chow groups and Hodge theory, including her recent technique of "decomposition of the diagonal", that has profound applications to rationality questions. Voisin has won numerous honours, such as the 2016 CNRS Gold Medal and the 2017 Shaw Prize.Claire Voisin is a leading figure in world mathematics, and has made outstanding contributions to many of the key problems of modern algebraic geometry.
