Date | 21 April 2022 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Professor Luis Fernando Alday as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Includes personal details of the elected Fellow, citation giving the reasons for election, and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Professor Fernando Alday is among the leading mathematical string theorists of his generation. He is best known for two series of seminal papers. The first shows how to calculate scattering amplitudes in planar supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling and uncovered a surprising mathematical structure in the form of new symmetries and dualities. The second begins with the seminal AGT (Alday, Giotto and Tachikawa) correspondence, which relates four dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories to two dimensional conformal field theories. This ground breaking correspondence has connected several branches of physics and mathematics. Both works had a transformative effect on their areas of theoretical physics. |
