Date | 21 April 2022 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Pierre Friedlingstein as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Includes personal details of the elected Fellow, citation giving the reasons for election, and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Pierre Friedlingstein is a world leader in the study of the terrestrial biosphere’s response to climate changes. His many achievements include the first mathematical formulation and categorization of the types of carbon cycle-climate feedbacks that the Earth system exhibits, the first to demonstrate that atmospheric CO2 increase alone cannot explain the terrestrial carbon sink, pointing to nitrogen deposition as a second driver, and the first to introduce dynamic carbon allocation schemes, based on resource limitations, into global vegetation models. His energetic leadership role is apparent as leader of recent IPCC reports, the Global Carbon project and international model intercomparison projects. |
