CitationRoberto Maiolino is a world leader in the field of Extragalactic Astrophysics. His research is focussed on the formation and evolution of galaxies and on the evolutionary influences of the super-massive black holes at their centres. Working across the whole range of wavelengths, from X-rays to radio, he has made key discoveries which underpin our understanding of the development of galaxies. His research displays outstanding skills in designing novel projects, leading the international teams to execute them, and thoughtfully interpreting the observations. He has played leading roles in several major European instrumentation projects and in planning the next generation of facilities.
