Citation | Kate Storey has made seminal discoveries about embryonic development of the vertebrate spinal cord, defining its progenitors and how these are specified, and uncovering a fundamental signalling switch regulating differentiation linked to chromatin modifying machinery at neural gene loci. Storey’s work informed in vitro differentiation protocols for pluripotent cells facilitating direct study of human neurogenesis. Storey pioneered live tissue-imaging approaches uncovering novel mechanisms regulating neural cell behaviour including a new form of cell sub-division and revealing how progenitors with regenerative potential are set aside in adult spinal cord. Storey also addresses how neural differentiation is impacted by cellular stress triggered by environmental factors. |
