Citation | For the discovery, design, and development of improved materials for industry, particularly lithium metal oxide electrodes for lithium ion battery systems. He is the lead inventor in two of the five principal lithium cathode chemistries that are used ubiquitously in devices powered by lithium batteries. His spinel cathode is extensively used and was the original material of choice for the Nissan Leaf. His more recent lithium-rich Ni-Mn-Co technology is one of the preferred candidates for electric vehicles and is set to be the dominant lithium battery chemistry over the next decade. |
