Citation | Hiroshi Hamada is a leading Japanese scientist who is a major international figure in the field of Developmental Biology. He has made important contributions to understanding how the vertebrate body axis is established and how left/right asymmetry is introduced as the embryo develops. He discovered that Nodal signalling plays a key role in this process and has elucidated the molecular mechanisms activated by this pathway that lead to breaking symmetry. He is an associate member of EMBO, on the editorial board of EMBO Journal and of the British based journal Development. He has close contacts with colleagues in the UK. |
