Base diary for the Royal Society's Antarctic Expedition's advance party, covering the departure of the Tottan on 22 January 1956 to 27 December 1956. The diary is likely to have written by the advance party's leader David Dalgliesh.

The file contains copies of correspondence between Lord Adrian PRS and Lord Mountbatten of Burma regarding the recruitment of David Dalgliesh to lead the IGY advance party to the Weddel Sea, 1955.
Also included is a document outlining the logistical capabilities of various international antarctic stations (Norweigan, French, Australian, New Zealand, Chilean, Argentinian).
Personnel details are included for members of the advance party (these papers are closed to researchers).
