TitleLetter from H A Snellen, Arts Voor Hart en Vaatziekten, Netherlands, to Henry Barcroft
Date12 September 1945
DescriptionThanks him for his letter. Is vacationing on the sea with his family. Informs him that his sister died. Wonders how Barcroft's parents are - recalls seeing them in London ten years before. Tells him that he stayed in Leiden during the war and was able to escape prison 'except for two days'. Describes his experience during the war - terrible not just from hunger but from terror of treason. 'It is not yet known how many people (and children) have been murdered by the Germans; there must be at least about a hundred thousand among the Jews alone'. Had a 'little Jew under our care' who has now been reunited with his mother. Hopes the war with strengthen British-Dutch friendships. Asks for news on his end, and where he could get some books and periodicals.
