DescriptionCopies of outgoing letters from Sir John Herschel on blue paper mounted on guards. Original or draft letters copied as part of the correspondence project led by Colonel John Herschel FRS following the death of his father. Various copyist from the Herschel family were involved in the exercise.
The letters are arranged chronologically to form a calendar of the correspondence, then alphabetically by correspondent.
Covering letters from 1839 to 1847.
Some letters copied in the sequence are duplicates of drafts or contemporary copies contained in volumes 1 to 19 of the incoming correspondence.
