| Description | Copies of outgoing letters from Sir John Herschel, on copy books and loose blue paper. Original or draft letters copied as part of the correspondence project led by Colonel John Herschel FRS following the death of his father. Various copyist from the Herschel family were involved in the exercise.
The letters in HS 25 do not appear to be duplicated in the volumes of copies 20-24 though they cover overlapping periods. The volume is arranged chronologically in 7 copy books and includes letters from 1830-1847 (with two letters from 1870), each copybook contains an index with recipient and date.
The boxes contain unbound manuscript material arranged in groups by correspondents. Typed indexes precede each copy book or group of letters. |
