Description	Herschel has been thinking about arrangements for the distibution of a certain number of copies of his Cape Observations. Presentation copies would be distributed from copies remaining in Smith's hands for sale. He has not heard of these for a long while. He concludes that demand for them must have ceased or has become very casual and he asks how many are left. On another matter, Herschel has now completed his translation of 'The Iliad' in English hexameters, in the style of the two books Smith has seen. He thinks that publishing the whole book as a separate endeavour would not interest him as a publisher, unless the risk and expense fell upon the author. Because the first book appeared in the [Cornhill] Magazine, he wished to have Smith's view on this point before searching for a publisher. Longmans, to whom Herschel felt bound, have declined to publish it. He has since learned that they were the publishers of Derby's translation.
