Title | Letter from C [Charles] Pritchard, Clapham, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel] |
Creator | Pritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer |
Date | 21 January 1846 |
Description | He asks that Herschel gives the thanks of little Jane Herschel [Pritchard] to Lady Herschel, for the gift of a silver cup. Dr [Gideon] Mantell assures the family that there is no reason to anticipate anything but health and stength for the baby. Pritchard discusses Mantell, his financial losses in pursuing geology, his medical pursuits, and his power of discrimination. The Bishop of Winchester has fixed on 7 February for opening the little chapel and on that morning the baby will be christened. He hopes that Sir John and Lady Herschel will be able to attend and there is a room at Herschel's disposal. He proposes, with [John Peter] Gassiot to 'get up Faraday's Experiment' or any others that Herschel would like to see. He hopes that Herschel will be pleased with the chapel, some architectural features of which he describes. They can find room for Willey [William James Herschel] if he would like to see his old companions. |
