Title | Letter from C [Charles] Pritchard, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel] |
Creator | Pritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer |
Date | 12 May [1849] |
Description | He thanks Herschel for the present of papers on double stars, which he places a high value upon. Pritchard is giving Herschel's boy daily reminders of his back subjects, now the earlier dynamics. It is common for young people to forget elementary principles unless exercised in them. He refers to his purchase of an altitude and azimuth circle by T [Thomas] Jones, which he has sent to [William] Simms. It was found to be in the same condition as the Cape circle and he describes the problems with it. He notes a social use of Herschel's 'Outlines of Astronomy' by a London merchant residing in Clapham, who has given a lecture to the Clapham Athenaeum based upon Herschel's books, with thirty very good large scale diagrams, taken from Herschel's drawings. Mrs Pritchard is still unwell, full of suffering before her confinement. |
