Title | Incomplete letter from C [Charles] Pritchard, Shanklin, I W [Isle of Wight], to Sir John [Frederick William] Herschel |
Creator | Pritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer |
Date | 18 July [no year, 1849?] |
Description | Pritchard welcomes an invitation to a picnic and the chance to inspect Mr [William Rutter] Dawes' equatorial. He asks if Herschel will allow Willy [William James Herschel] to return with him to Shanklin to spend the rest of the week. The sea may do him good and they shall level the top of Dunnose on Shanklin Down examining the agreement of barometrical and theodolite readings. There are promising traits about Herschel's boy. Pritchard relates an anecdote of his behaviour in school. |
