TitleLetter from C [Charles] Pritchard, Clapham, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel]
CreatorPritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer
Date18 [13?] December [1849?]
DescriptionPritchard asks for a probable solution of the occultation question, which he supposes depends upon the telescope. He believed that [George Biddell] Airy found the beads at a solar eclipse. Pritchard will not quote Herschel. He send some extracts. The extracts he wants for Monday will be read at a meeting of the Clapham Athenaeum, of which he is Vice-President. Willey is going on well with his examination subjects and he will know them well by May. The new work attempted with him has been an introduction to D'Alembert's principle, so that he knows something of oscillation.
