TitleLetter from C [Charles] Pritchard, Clapham, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel]
CreatorPritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer
Date5 July [no year, 1859?]
DescriptionHe has written to Professor Barthlomew Price to ask for information on the Magdalene Fellowship. He fears that Alexander's degree might go against him, in Cambridge versus Oxford mathematics. Alexander's friend C Steward had a demyship at the College and might have information, while Pritchard knows Mr Hessey and one Fellow. If Alexander [Stewart Herschel] intends to try, he should read [George] Salmon's 'Conic Sections', which is prized in Oxford, which he comments upon. In a postscript, he says that he is visiting Sevenoaks for ten days.
