Title | Letter from C [Charles] Pritchard, Clapham, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel] |
Creator | Pritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer |
Date | 5 July [no year, 1859?] |
Description | He has written to Professor Barthlomew Price to ask for information on the Magdalene Fellowship. He fears that Alexander's degree might go against him, in Cambridge versus Oxford mathematics. Alexander's friend C Steward had a demyship at the College and might have information, while Pritchard knows Mr Hessey and one Fellow. If Alexander [Stewart Herschel] intends to try, he should read [George] Salmon's 'Conic Sections', which is prized in Oxford, which he comments upon. In a postscript, he says that he is visiting Sevenoaks for ten days. |
