TitleLetter from C [Charles] Pritchard, Clapham, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel]
CreatorPritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer
Date28 November 1844
DescriptionIn the report made to Pritchard that morning, Herschel's little boy's name [William James Herschel] was noticed as possibly having whooping cough. Pritchard directed a medical man to be consulted, but he was unable to give a definite opinion. He has been sent over to Mrs Pritchard at The Crescent, is being watched, and is in bed. He is next to Pritchard's study and the nature of the coughs gives little room for doubt. They think that home is the best place for him, and requests Herschel's decision on the subject. If Herschel comes himself, the child will be found at Pritchard's house and he regrets the interruption to his studies.
