Title | Letter from C [Charles] Pritchard, Freshwater, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel] |
Creator | Pritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer |
Date | 27 December 1865 |
Description | Pritchard asks Herschel to sign the candidate's certificate for Dr [William] Selwyn, who is anxious to become a Fellow of the Royal Society. He is rendering good service to the Sun's autobiography. He wonders if Herschel would endorse how the Royal, and society in general, benefit from divines of high position. He has taken the matter up for Selwyn and aims to get the best names on his certificate. He feels some esprit de corps with a fellow clergyman and fears that the scientific large-minded genius of his brethren is dying out. |
