Title | Letter from C [Charles] Pritchard, Freshwater, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel] |
Creator | Pritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer |
Date | 20 March 1866 |
Description | Except for the preface to the 'Catalogue of Double Stars', Pritchard is sure that his colleague would not hear of Herschel engaging in mechanical work. Some means will be found to save Herschel from drudgery. When the work is done the manuscript will be sent to Herschel, and a portion of his letter read to Council of the Royal Astronomical Society. Pritchard encloses a letter to Alex [Alexander Stewart Herschel] which he asks to be addressed; there may be temporary work for him if he is inclined to do it. He send a 'psychological curiosity' to amuse Herschel, which proceeds from [John] Tyndall and he writes it on another paper with regards to Lady Herschel. In a postscript, he advises Herschel to put these lubrications in the fire rather than giving 'any bother of brain'. |
