TitleLetter from C [Charles] Pritchard, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel]
CreatorPritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer
Date26 March 1869
DescriptionPritchard hopes that Herschel will not be displeased with the work being done for 'Good Words' on the progress of modern astronomical research. It commences with his great father and on reading his memoirs, it occurred to Pritchard that he might do good by connecting the history with the chief discoverer's name and biography. He has found this in [François] Arago's 1842 'Annuaire'. He asks if Herschel could look at the enclosed slips [not present] to approve his mode of treating the subject and to correct any errors. He intends to carry on the discovery of Georgium Sidus and then go on popularising such grand concepts. He agrees with [Friedrich Georg Wilhelm von] Struve and Arago that it is a loss that his father's work and methods are not well known. 'The ethos & example of the case are magnificent'. He will rejoice to mention Johnny's [John Herschel] nebulae work in a judicious way.
