Title | Letter from C [Charles] Pritchard, Clapham, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel] |
Creator | Pritchard; Charles (1808-1893); British astronomer |
Date | no date [early 1845, or early 1846] |
Description | Pritchard is glad to hear that Herschel's son is better. He agrees with Herschel's plan and there will be no harm in his doing nothing methodical until after Easter. Home may provide happy results. He hopes that Willy [William James Herschel] has learned not to give his friends the slip and run into the cold and rain. Pritchard learned that he had left Clapham with no cold; his erratic habits in rainy weather were indulged in while Sir John Herschel and Lady Herschel were away. He had hoped to reach Hawkhurst but that has been postponed; he may give a microscope 'to expand the sphere of your young people's vision'. In a postscript, he notes the enclosure of a lithograph of the Chapel now being built. Pritchard signed William James Herschel's name on parchment which is in a bottle, with coins and other items in the first stone laid. He describes the building and its features, and they are all learning to sing for their choral service. |
