TitleIncomplete letter from J [John] Herschel, to [John Frederick William Herschel or Margaret Brodie Herschel]
CreatorHerschel; John (1837-1921); British army officer and astronomer
Dateno date [early 1857]
DescriptionCommencing 'of this 3£'. He asks if Hume's bill is sent, as he has given John many things which are not regulation wear and had omitted some articles. He has been obliged to go to the army tailor in town. He is provoked at having a tunic made rather than the coat that he asked for. Colonel Sandham almost directed him to change it, but he is allowed to wear it as many others do. Uncle Duncan has sent him a manual of surveying in India. He gives thanks for letters. He was suddenly called upon to deliver an impromtu lecture from a model, but luckily he knew the subject well. He asks Pankhurst to find a pair of regimental trousers and send them. He is astonished at the cheapness of parcel carriage.
