TitleLetter from J [John] Herschel, Camp Dalura T.S. nr. D.G. [Dera Gazi] Khan , to 'Dearest Mother' [Margaret Brodie Herschel]
CreatorHerschel; John (1837-1921); British army officer and astronomer
Date2 February 1860
DescriptionHe must write now and it is impossible to write collectedly when so much noise is going on in camp. He is also hurried which prevents him from writing sense. John forwards letters from Willy [William James Herschel]. He has had no home letters for some time and he gives a forwarding address. He asks for books - [Adolphe] 'Quetelet's Probability' and one by [Thomas?] Galloway which would be more to purpose. John is convinced that the methods being used in applying the theory of probabilities there are wrong. He acknowledges receipt of the 'Rifle Book'.
