DescriptionCorrespondence from colleagues and acquaintances, to Lieutenant [later Colonel] John Herschel RE. The letters are from writers based almost entirely in India. Many of the regular correspondents were cadets at the Royal India Military College at Addiscombe, Surrey (also known as Addiscombe College) who progressed into posts within the British Army Royal Engineers) or the British Indian Army (Royal Bengal Engineers), and who were associated with the Great Trigonometrical Survey. The series also includes some letters from Wilfrid Airy, in England.
