Dr Goddard propos'd the Experiment of wht forces will compress the Aire into lesser dimensions, and in what proportions.
Sir Robert Moray propos'd to inquire by Experiments what bore maketh aJet of Water rise highest, and of what figure the end of the pipe must bee for that purpose ; alledging, that the end of the pipe being tapered, by that figure the Cylinder of water incumbent on that bore presses more upon it, then by its owne weight.
Dr Wren was desired to peruse the Earle of Sandwich his observations, made by him in his late Sea - Voyage to Portugall and the Straights, and to compare themn with those made here of the same kind. And that in the meane time My lord Sandwich shall have the thanks of the Society given him by Sir Paul Neile, for his care and favour of making and communicationg these observations, concerning which hee is to receive a further account hereafter.
Mr Croone was desired to make the Experiment to shew, that water will passe, where aire will not.
Uppon the occasion of the written Philosophicall books, that were presented to the Society for their Examination, and received a good Character by those members of the Society, that had read them ; it was orderd , that no books presented to the Censure of the Society, shall receive a publick approbation from them, but onely, if the Society think fit to referre such books to one or more of the fellowes, esteemed by them competent Judges thereof, that the report, made thereof to the Society by such fellowes, may be communicated to the Authours of the books thus presented, and that it may bee Signed by one of the Secretaries. |
