TitleJournal Book of the Royal Society Volume 1, minutes of meetings 1660-1663
Date28 November 1660-11 November 1663
DescriptionThis volume contains the official record of events, discussions and decisions taken at ordinary meetings of Fellows of Royal Society during the above dates. Meeting activity included proposal and election of new Fellows to the Society, formation of investigative and decision making committees, experiments carried out or assigned to Fellows and matters designated as desireable for information gathering.

The earliest minutes document the foundational meetings of the Royal Society, from the first recorded meeting on 28 November 1660 at Gresham College, London, through subsequent meetings in which the Founders and other early Fellows laid out the prinicipals and working practices that would govern the newly formalised Society, usually referred to in the minutes as 'the company'.

Note that in most sources the date given for the election of Original Fellows (those elected prior to the 22 June 1663) is the date they re-joined the Society between April-June 1663 (if they did so) as mandated by the Second Royal Charter granted to the Society. The minutes in Journal Book volume one are a source for the earlier proposal and/or election and admittance dates for most of the Original Fellows as well as their signatures to the obligation of Fellowship.
