Upon reading the minutes relating to the birds nests of Cochin-China Sir Hans Sloand took occasion to say that he has been credibly informed that these nests are built by a Small bird of the Swallow kind and are made of a certain sea herb which this bird gathers and dissolves into a glutinious Substance.
Mr Bellers, Mr Keisler, Mr Moragul Mr Douglas and Dr Moreton had leave to be present.
Mr Desaguliers produced before the Society a Small Model of an Engin to raqise water by the force of a steame of boiling water being an improvement of Captain Savery's Engine for raising Water by Fire.
This Engine was tryed before the Society to serve for the annual Exeriments appointed to be made by the Will of Sir Godfrey Copley. The Experiment being found to succeed, Mr Desaguliers was ordered to draw up an Account of it and procure a draught of the Engine to be printed in the Transactions and registered int he Society's books pursuant to the Minutes of the Council June 20, 1717 made upon Sir godfrey Copley's Legacy.
Sir Hans Sloane introduced an Artist Skilled in a new art of Staining Marble in a great variety of beautifull colous and with such strength as to prenetrate a great depthinto the substance of the Stone. He produced before the Society a Specimen of his work being a marble Slab about 3 foot lond and 2 foot broad and about 1/2 inch thick, in the middle of the Stone was the picture of a fine Landscape curiously drawn in a variety of bright colours being surrounded with a large ornamental border of flourishing. All the Colours were very Strong and vivid and appeared to penetrate above 1/2 the thickness of the Marble.
Sir Hans had the thanks of the Society for communicating this curiosity.
Mr Bamber was admitted fellow of the Society.
Dr Stukeley according to the request of the Society the last meeting, Sent an account of Dr Musgrave' Belgium Brittannicum containing the particular contents fo each chapter to which were subjected some remaks of his own upon Several passages in the Book which was read.
The Dr was ordered the thanks of the Society and So much of his discourse as related tot he accounts of teh Contents was directed to be printed.
Dr Steigertahl communicated an account of the contents of a Book of Natural History designed to be published in Germany intituled Dr Antiquissima Statu Naturalis Regiones Brunsvicensis et Lunonburgensis, which being read the Dr Received the thanks of the Society.
Mr Leneve made the Society a present of a Smal part of a petrified Crab tree Stock taken out of a certain brook at Ahnesley within a mile of Coventry for which he had thanks.
The President was pleased to communicate a Letter from Dr Jussieu fellow of the Royal Academy of Sciences at Paris and Botannic Professor in the Kings Garden. In which he expresses his thankfullness for the favour don him by this Society in making choice of him for one of their Members and assures them of his good melination and intention to recommend himself to them by endeavouring to promote the business of the Society.
