' A certificate remommending William Fitzherbert Esq Vice President of the Soiciety for promoting Arts and Commerce, for election into the Royal Society, dated London, 14 April and signed Romney, Willoughby, Samuel Chandler, Thomas Brand, H Baker, J Wilkes, J Stuart, W Watson, James Burrow, George Eckersall, N Munkley, Charles Morton, and Thomas Birch, was read, and ordered to be put up in the publick meeting room

As was likewise another certificate, in favour of Robert Webb Esq of Wigmore Street, Cavendish Square, dated also 14 April 1762, and signed Romney, Willoughby, Samuel Chandler, Thomas Brand, H Baker, J Wilkes, J Stuart, W Watson, George Eckersal, N Munkley, C Morton and Thomas Birch.

The Marquis de Turbilly and Mr Abeille, two Gentemen formerly proposed according to the statute, were elected Fellows of the Society. '

Gifts presented;
1. A book entitled 'Exposition du Calcul astronomique' by Mr de la Lande of the [French] Royal Academy of Sciences printed at Paris in 1762 and presented by the author

Papers read;
1. Paper entitled 'Extract of aLetter from Charlton Woolaston MD, FRS to William Heberden MD, FRS of 13 April 1762 at Bury St Edmunds read, containing his account of a disease in the family of John Downing a poor man of Bury St Edmunds. [Full Account given]

2. President communicated to the Society 'the particular observations, relative to the Transit of Venus, which had been made at the Cape of Good Hope by the Society's observers Mr Mason and Mr Dixon, contained in 6 sheets of paper, part of which were read to the Society.' [Account given in detail]

3. Dr Morton FRS 'communicated a letter and Pacquet from the East India Company' to himself from East India House on 9 April 1762 signed by the secretary Robert James, relating to the care taken for the observations of Venus and a packet containing the observations in detail made by Mr Hirst, by Captain Robert Barker at Pondicherry, and by the Jesuits at Grand Mont and at Tranqubar. [Account given in detail, including instruments used]

Resolved thanks to be sent by the Society to Governor Pigot, the Reverend Mr Hirst and to the President, and that a letter be written by the Secretary to the Directors of the East India Company to thank them for ' their repeated civilities and favours to the Society, in relation to the observtions of the late Transit of Venus.'
