' His Grace the Duke of Devonshire, a Fellow elect of this Society, having paid his admission fee, and the further sum of twenty guineas in lieu of contributions; and having also signed his name in he Charter Book, was admitted by the Vice President.'

Gifts received;
1. A printed copy by Mr Charles White, Surgeon FRS of his dissertation concerning ' the use of dried sponge in stopping haemorrhages'

Communications;
1. Dr Maty's translation of a French letter from the Isle of Rodriguez of 24 July 1761 signed Pingre of the Academy of Sciences at Paris containing his observations of the Transit of Venus made at the Isle of Rodgiguez in the East Indies.
2. Duplicate of Mr Pingre's observations dated at Lisbon on 6 March 1761 also read, in which he says various copies have been sent. Results collated.
3. Read a Latin Paper 'Observationum transitus Veneris in disco Solis, in insula maris Aethiopici, Rodriguez dicta, die 6 Junii peractarum a D Pingre, Comaparatio cum observationibus Parisiensibus a De de la Lalande, Academ. reg. Parisin Socio' . Mr de la Lande ordered to be thanked, though a note is made of a mistake using 'minima' rather than 'maxima' in the distance of the limbs of Venus...'
4. Letter addressed to Mr Dunn at the Academy in Chelsea dated London 13 April 1762 signed W Ayton. Communicated information also in East India Company letter and paper mentioned by Dr Bevis in his account of Mr Hirst's paper without mentioning Mr Hirst.
5. Letter addressed to Dr John Bevis in Clerkenwell Close, London, dated St Helena 26 January 1762 and signed Neville Maskelyne communicated by Dr Mortonn. Concerns the Jesuit observations of the Transit at Tranquebar and at Grand Mont, near Madras [Chennai] and agrees with Mr Hirst's account.
6. Second letter from Mr Maskelyne dated St Helena 6 January 1762 addressed to Dr Watson FRS read, concerning the new previously untried Sector [telescope?] which was an incomplete instrument impossible to repair there and he therefore determined to return to England.
7. Paper by Mr Harding, now Purser to his Majesty's ship Norfolk, entitled ' Remarks on the transit of Venus 6 June 1761 made at Bombay' communicated by Mr Mead FRS and read
8. Paper by the Reverend Dr Stukeley FRS read describing the singular flintstone exhibited the Society with a drawing

Resolved that ' the observations made at the Cape of Good Hope by Mr Mason and Mr Dixon; and the others made at Fort St George, by Mr Hirst FRS be referred to Professor Bliss of Oxford FRS to reduce the sidereal to solar time; to settle the longitudes and latitudes; and to deduce the parallax , by a comparison with the observations at Greenwich. '
